After the reasonable success of the first five games, we decided not to change our approach too drastically. However, we did agree to choose a different opening for the sixth game. Until then, with Black, we had tried to make his usual line after 1.32-28 17-22x21 unattractive for him, in the hope that he would try something different. Since he had been playing exactly the same sequence of moves after that opening for quite some time, I hoped it would feel unnatural for him to deviate. However, it turned out he had no trouble repeating the same opening again, even though in my view he wouldn’t really have any prospects for the rest of the game. After two games in which I myself also failed to create any significant chances, I decided to try something different.
